The next morning I popped to the Buddhist temple next door, before I headed over my China Toursto Gulang yu. Its a very nice temple. It had a big lotus pond at the front, and was the nicest temple I had seen yet.I went to the vegetarian restaurant next door and had spring rolls and cold noodles with peanut sauce and cucumber. Travelling in China, especially dinning in a restaurant by yourself is a lonely experience where you are greatly restircted to what you can eat. And so here I am on my final night on Gulang Yu. I've found a lady who does these vegetable wrap things that are delicious and am currently working my way through a big bag of lychees. Gulang Yu is a bit like the land that time forgot. It is the home of various foreign consulates, although most are dilapidated and have trees growing in them or look more like shanty towns as the owners cant afford their upkeep. Its a real mix of splendind old buildings, faded glory and rack and ruin. What can I say, I'm hankering for a nostalgic and romantic era that probably never even happened. But still. If I had a pot of money, I'd buy one of these crumbling old mansions and make it wonderful again. Tomorrow night, I travel to Tibetby Air China. I will stay in Lhasa for a week, it is said thatTibet Travel is the heaven in the world , the top mountain on the earth , close to the cloud.

Surprising Shanghai Trip

[font=Calibri]Well, my Shanghai Vacationsflight was very tired. We boarded the plane, got situated and sat. I had one man next to me who ended up talking to me the majority of the Shanghai Flights. His name was Fisher and was Chinese. So the moment you step off the plane into the tunnel you can feel the heat and humidity. We had to hand in little sheets that we filled out about our health and where we sat on the China Easternplane. After that you step into a line for foreigners to have your passports checked. We headed out to the bus and loaded our 18 suitcases and whatnot into it and headed for our hotel. From a first look, driving from Pudong to the Shanghai Hotels, Shanghai is very green and lush. There are lots of trees and plants. There is a major mix of new and old style buildings. A lot of the buildings are very eclectic and cool. [/font]
[font=Calibri]When we arrived at the china hotel, we set our luggage in the rooms and left. Rebecca and Linda took us for a little walk around the neighborhood to show us international ATM’s and the China Mobile store where we would eventually get our cell phones (that adventure will come later in the story). At the ATM it is in Chinese and English. At the end they ask you if you would like advice. What it is really trying to say is would you like your receipt. We all decided we would rather have the advice.[font=Calibri] Then, [/font]we all got in taxis to head to the Hong Mei area, which has a lot of shops and restaurants and other foreigners. Rebecca and Linda left us at this point. We walked down this pedestrian walkway with lots of restaurants and ended up running into Priya who is also from Chicago and had just arrived in Shanghai a few days before us. She is teaching at a different international school here. We chatted for a second and then went on the way. [/font]
